Positioning Each Chapter as a Business Resource

Melissa 2Every three years we conduct a membership-wide survey of member demographics, characteristics and attitudes, conducted by an independent research firm. We have just concluded our most recent survey and want to share an overview with you.

First up, 95 percent of respondents report that belonging to the Women's Council gives them "a sense of professional pride and satisfaction." We think that speaks volumes about the member value we strive to create throughout our organization.

At Women's Council, we strive to position each chapter as the business resource for real estate professionals on the local level, with informative educational events, as well as opportunities to make powerful business connections. A majority of survey respondents reported being "very" or "somewhat satisfied" with the facets of their local chapter involvement: referrals, meetings and programs, business connections, leadership development opportunities, etc. Members reported greatest satisfaction with meetings and programs that are real estate related (91 percent) and business contacts (91 percent).

The survey results also confirmed these statistics about our membership:

  • Our members work in real estate full time (on average, 46 hours a week).
  • One in five members have an ownership interest in their firms.
  • Most members (72 percent) describe their job function as sales associate, while 14 percent are managers for their firm.
  • Fifty-one percent of members are affiliated with a real estate franchise.
  • Overall, members' average 2012 personal income from all real estate activities was $85,960. However, among members who work in real estate full-time (40 or more hours per week), the average personal income was $101,420.
  • In 2013, we will continue to build on the support we offer to Women's Council leaders to help make their chapters strong, through our officer training opportunities such as the Leadership Academy in Chicago, as well as brand-new tools to streamline and improve web content delivered by local chapters.
