Women's Council Leads the Way with Leadership Training

by Sindy Ready, PMN

In our industry, Women's Council is well known for our quality education and leadership training. We are proud of our role in leadership development. So you may ask, what does that really mean, and why would I need leadership training?

The answer will be different for every person. While one person may pursue leadership training to help build a successful business, for others it can mean a "seat at the table" when important decisions are made in shaping our industry. It can lead to participation at a local or state REALTOR® association or a Women's Council committee, to name a few.

Personally, I have watched as leaders began their training uncomfortable to speak even before a very small group. And in no time the same individual is running a business meeting.

These leadership skills help us as we negotiate in our sales role or mediate in a business management role. Public speaking, meeting management, conflict management, business planning, negotiating, communication and facilitator techniques are just a few of these great skills.

Do we wake up one day and say, "I want to be a leader?" Typically no. But we might think, "I want to give back, so I will get involved in the community." That might be a community group, work committee, school board, city council or state government or as a coach.

But where do you learn those skills in a supportive environment? You guessed it: Women's Council. We provide members with three free online training modules that are designed to help strengthen skills as an effective leader: "Speaking & Presentation Skills," "Preparing to Lead" and "Effective Meetings."

Also, Women's Council's designation program features a "Leadership Excellence" course that focuses on proven leadership principles. These include leading through adversity and conflict, empowering teams and understanding and working effectively with different personalities from a leadership perspective. This course helps participants uncover their leadership strengths and then develop a personalized plan of next-level action.

In just a few weeks, our annual Leadership Academy will take place in Chicago. This program trains our incoming local, state and regional leaders for their year of service ahead. It is an intense two-day program that is jam-packed with amazing education to prepare our incoming leadership teams across the nation for a year of success in 2015. The faculty is the best of the best, and attendees come away with tools, skills and friendships to help take their chapters to the next level.

All members benefit from the excitement and planning that chapter leaders experience at Academy. By planning ahead, we can be on target with current business programs at the local level to help you in your business and life. Personally, it is an honor for me to serve as this year's Chancellor of the Leadership Academy.

The real question is, how can Women's Council help you with your leadership journey? Let us know.
