Do Designations Really Make a Difference for Business?
November is officially NAR's Designation Awareness Month. So, what are these designations all about, and do they really help with business?
REALTORS® who pursue professional designations have a distinct competitive edge as a result of their increased expertise and marketability. Based on NAR’s 2013 Member Profile survey data, the median income of REALTORS® with no designation was $33,500, while the median income of those with at least one designation was $61,100.
Over the years, I have taken courses and completed the requirements for several designations and certifications, including ABR, GRI, CRS, SRES, CDPE, PMN and e-PRO. Each has its own benefits, and I am proud to have earned them.
Yes, they do make a difference for business, especially with regards to agent-to-agent referrals. If (like me) you live in an area with a large number of REALTORS®, designations are one way to narrow a referral search. A designation shows our commitment to expanding our knowledge to help our clients. And if an agent has the same designation, he or she knows the time and effort you took to secure the designation, so you have added credibility.
Women's Council has our own designation: the Performance Management Network (PMN). In our Referral Center, the PMN logo is added next to each designee's name, and you can narrow the online search to PMN designees only. Again, it helps with sending outgoing referrals.
Our PMN designation covers such areas as leadership excellence, skill-based performance management and networking and referral systems. As REALTORS®, our clients are tech savvy, and we need to stay on top of a fast-paced business environment. The PMN coursework does just that. Some courses can be taken online; others are offered locally in a traditional classroom setting. We always offer courses at national meetings in May and November.
Click here for an overview of our course offerings, some of which even count as electives for other REALTOR® designations and certifications. As you can see, our courses are jam-packed with practical information that you can actually use to improve your bottom line. If you have your PMN or you are working towards obtaining it, congratulations! If not, what's stopping you? Get started today. You won't regret it!
And if you sign up before the end of 2014, your PMN dues will be paid through the beginning of 2016. Click here for more details on courses offered across the country. Here's to a great 2015!
