AcademyWomen's Council's Leadership Academy is an educational marathon designed to prepare incoming officers for their year of leadership ahead. This exclusive training event is held annually in Chicago for local and state chapter presidents-elect and regional vice presidents-elect. Here incoming leaders will learn how to build an effective leadership team, communicate the value of membership and develop and implement award-winning industry programs.

Often I hear members say this is the best educational offering that Women's Council provides. And it is true when you leave the Academy and head home your brain will be overflowing with valuable information and ideas sparked by your attendance. However, it is what you do with this information that determines the success of your chapter!

Although participants will achieve personal growth from attending, the Leadership Academy is held to benefit chapters with the end goal being local programming that helps members compete in an evolving industry. As an attendee, you are there to take what you learn back to your leadership team and apply these strategies in your chapter.

If you are attending this year's event, you will be asked to answer these three questions as you participate in the different modules:

  1. How will I take this information back to my chapter?
  2. Which members of the leadership team need this information?
  3. How will this information help the identified team members?

The information provided at Leadership Academy is vital to the success of each local chapter. As an attendee, you will leave Chicago feeling exhilarated and bursting with ideas for the coming year. Once you return home, you will no doubt get caught up in the busy routines of daily life, so be sure to save those creative ideas somewhere you can refer back to them. Begin planning for your year as soon as possible and incorporate the things you learned at Academy.

Women's Council provides you the tools to run an effective chapter but it is up to you and your leadership team to utilize those tools for success. Let me be the first to thank you for your commitment.

Also, I would like to offer a huge thank you to all the amazing faculty members volunteering at this year's event. Without you, this event would not be possible.
