Officer Blog: Leadership Academy

by Heather Ozur, PMN

2015La 14Women's Council's Leadership Academy, presented this year from August 5-7, is an educational and leadership-training program designed to prepare incoming officers for their year of leadership ahead. This exclusive training event is held annually in Chicago for all local and state Presidents-elect and Regional Vice Presidents-elect. Incoming leaders will learn how to build an effective leadership team, communicate the value of membership as well as develop and implement award-winning industry programs.

Our goal each year is to provide an outstanding learning experience so our incoming leadership walks away understanding the "Big Picture" and the importance of the functionality and structure as they relate to delivering member value at each level of Women’s Council.

The Leadership Academy is held to train and inspire the incoming leadership with a focus on local programming that helps members compete in an evolving industry. As an attendee, you are there to take what you learn back to your leadership team and apply these strategies in your chapter. We have consistently received accolades for our Leadership Academy from both in and outside the industry. The model has been emulated in local and state associations across the country, and we are proud of the recognition we have received.

This year local Presidents-elect will be assigned to one of four teams, which will rotate among the four modules. 2015La 12State Presidents-elect and incoming Regional Vice Presidents-elect will attend other meetings that focus on the state and national information. There will be opportunities to network with fellow attendees throughout the two days. The attendee will not want to miss the casual dinner on Saturday evening to meet new friends and create new networking avenues.

Other takeaways from Leadership Academy are networking, referral partners and most importantly, the friendships that are formed.  Often, I hear members say they received exceptional education and leadership development skills and formed friendships that last a lifetime.

We know that the attendees will bring home valuable tools and information to share with the 2017 leadership team at the local and state levels. Thank you for your commitment to serve Women’s Council of REALTORS®, we look forward to your leadership.

Also a big thank you goes out to all the talented faculty members volunteering at this year’s Leadership Academy. Each of you helps make Women’s Council Leadership Academy a successful learning experience for our attendees.
