You also have the opportunity to take your business leadership to the next level. As you become involved in your chapter's leadership, learning to hone your speaking and communication skills will undoubtedly become one of your goals. Joining an organization like Toastmasters is an excellent tool in your quest to achieve business leadership growth.

Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Their mission is to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. Toastmasters helped me early on in my leadership development quest, as I wanted to lead my Local Chapter with excellence but needed the speaking confidence to accomplish that goal. I’ve since attained the Toastmaster’s Competent Communicator and Competent Leader designations, which have given me the confidence to stand in front of a room of hundreds and deliver a speech without being terrified.

Many REALTORS® have joined Toastmasters to hone their presentation skills and give them the confidence when interviewing with sellers or facilitating home buyer workshops. If you are ready to learn how to overcome your fear of public speaking and deliver a speech like a pro, gain communication-based leadership skills that will advance your career, then Toastmasters is an excellent resource to enhance your Women’s Council experience. As you develop your leadership within the Council, speaking to an audience will be inevitable, whether it be in the board room, a committee meeting or facilitating a Business Resource Meeting. It will become essential for you to overcome your fear.

Public speaking has been identified as one of the top fears in the world according to several surveys, even greater than the fear of death. “Comedian Jerry Seinfeld jokes that at a funeral, most people would rather be lying in the casket than delivering the eulogy.” The fortunate thing is fear of speaking to an audience can be controlled, with some learned strategies and tools. Toastmasters is a low cost, convenient method to accomplish that. Toastmasters clubs are in every city and most clubs meet for an hour weekly or bi-weekly. Visit club meetings and ask about their education plan. You want to be in a club that focuses on educational advancement and has mentors to help you reach your goals quickly. Also look at their member count. Very large clubs could limit your ability to get speaking opportunities and too small clubs may limit your growth experience. Whichever club you join I can affirm that Toastmasters clubs are a great way to fast track your Women’s Council business leadership growth experience and provide a whole new realm of communication and leadership experience for your real estate career.
