A Journey of Leadership, Service, and LearningOver the years, I have made it a point to express my gratitude each day for the many blessings and opportunities that have come my way. Many of these opportunities have placed me in groundbreaking roles, often as the first African American to occupy such positions—an experience that traces back to my high school years, a time when integration was still relatively new. More recently, within the real estate industry, I had the distinct honor of becoming the first African American to serve as president of the Women’s Council of REALTORS® for the local chapter in Mobile. A few years later, I once again broke barriers as the first African American president of the Mobile Area Association of REALTORS®. These achievements were made possible by the unwavering support of many who believed in my leadership and lifted me up, and I continue to feel the strength of their support today. Through my ongoing professional journey and my roles as a trailblazer, I have found that my passions for travel and lifelong learning are continually woven into the fabric of each position I hold.
My two decades in the real estate industry have provided an education that far exceeds what I learned in the classroom as a Communications major at The University of Montevallo. The lessons from my college days remain relevant as I assist buyers and sellers through real estate transactions, affirming the value of the time I invested in learning. Every transaction allows me to apply my unique skills, leading to many successes and celebrations. Along the way, I have gained friends across the globe, especially through my involvement at all levels of REALTORS® associations—local, state, and national. I am particularly grateful for the ongoing educational opportunities that come with continued engagement in this field. Guided by a servant’s heart, I live by my motto: “Uniquely yours, service designed just for you!” Among the various honors I have received, my proudest moment was being named Mobile’s “REALTOR® of the Year” in 2016. To be selected for this title out of a membership of over 1,200 was, and remains, a tremendous honor for which I am deeply appreciative.
I never take for granted the privilege of being surrounded by others who respect me and seek my guidance. Advising and encouraging my peers to practice the Golden Rule in our profession has brought great rewards. Fostering respectful relationships with fellow REALTORS® allows for open and constructive judgment, always for the betterment of all involved.
To serve with the Alabama Real Estate Commission is an immense honor—one I regard with the highest esteem. The professional care and concern I offer to fellow REALTORS® would be a direct extension of the training I have received from serving on Professional Standards Committees at every level. I am reminded of a simple yet profound conversation with my father, my personal hero, who once asked, “Do you know who you are?” My affirmative reply was met with his directive never to forget it. This guiding principle has fueled my achievements, both personally and professionally. Regardless of the titles that follow my name, upholding the Golden Rule remains paramount—especially in challenging situations where it can be the key to achieving the best outcome for all.
