June 25, 2025

wheeler margoOn May 20, 2025, the Tacoma-Pierce County Association of REALTORS® (TPCAR) marked a historic and heartfelt occasion with the grand re-opening of its newly renovated headquarters—now dedicated to the late Margo Wheeler, a trailblazer, mentor, and beloved leader within the REALTOR® family.

The dedication ceremony honored Margo’s lifelong commitment to the real estate profession and her extraordinary contributions to both the local and national REALTOR® communities. A past National President of Women’s Council of REALTORS® (2011), Margo served in countless leadership roles and mentored hundreds throughout her decades of service. Her leadership was defined by grace, strength, and an unmatched ability to inspire those around her.

Among the moving tributes shared during the event was a speech by longtime friend and fellow Past National President, Gail Hartnett, who reflected on2600933929091849989 meeting Margo in 1996 at a Women’s Council of REALTORS® Chapter Orientation in Portland, Oregon. From the start, their connection was rooted in shared ambition, mutual respect, and a shared desire to elevate others.

Gail painted a vivid picture of Margo’s character—not just as a skilled professional, but as a force of nature who made everyone around her feel seen, valued, and empowered. “If you ever found yourself hesitating, wondering whether you could achieve something,” she said, “Margo was right there—smiling, encouraging, and probably giving you a gentle (but firm) nudge forward.”

With the official unveiling of the Margo Wheeler Building, TPCAR ensures that her legacy is not only remembered but woven into the very fabric of the organization’s future. The building now stands as a physical symbol of Margo’s vision—one rooted in community, mentorship, and unwavering excellence.2388738501930073739 1

Yet, as Gail poignantly reminded those gathered, the truest tribute to Margo isn’t etched in stone or steel. “While the walls may bear her name,” she said, “it is in our work, our mentorship, and our shared commitment to excellence that her legacy truly lives on.”

Margo’s impact on the industry—especially on Women’s Council of REALTORS®—continues to ripple outward. She was more than a leader; she was a friend, a guide, and an embodiment of what it means to lift others as you climb.3658347845389850994 1

In dedicating its building to her, the Tacoma-Pierce County Association of REALTORS® not only commemorates Margo Wheeler’s remarkable life and leadership, but it extends her influence for generations to come.

As Gail closed her remarks, she left attendees with a final reminder that surely would have made Margo smile: “Let’s celebrate. Let’s continue the work. And let’s never forget that we were lucky enough to have known her.”
